Around campus I am a member of the leadership board for the Sexuality and Gender Alliance at CMC and I play on the Women’s Rugby Team! I’m always around campus whether it be studying, chilling at the hub or hanging out and sunbathing with my friends! Koch observed that Trump’s actions do not always align with promises made on the campaign trail. Moreover, many of the professors responded to student questions about whether Trump can or wants to achieve all of his stated goals.
U.S. Foreign Policy Outlook After the 2024 Election
Many students and faculty expressed concern that U.S. alliances will increasingly depend on personal relations with Trump and what other countries can offer, rather than longer-term U.S. strategic considerations. “It’s not a ‘perhaps,’” they decisively rebutted, “America hates women so much, they’d cmc markets review rather have a rapist as the president than a woman of color.” A tense, uncomfortable silence fell over the class. I believe that Donald Trump lacks the character to be president and that his victory will severely harm America’s civic culture and international reputation. “The capstone is unique in the sense that it offers students a taste of working with an external client on a real-world program and soft skills, such as proper presentation, in addition to analysis skills,” said Batta in an exclusive interview with the Forum. In the capstone, teams of four students engage in a data-analysis project for organizations in the public and private sectors. In 2018, George Roberts ‘66 P’93 donated $25 million to expand data science education and computing education.

Bill Kristol Says He Would Vote For Zohran Mamdani for New York City Mayor
To fulfill the capstone requirement, the major would also require students to participate in a clinic in addition to completing a thesis. The committee, which consists of professors from various departments, has proposed a 12 course major with classes in math, statistics, probability, computer science, and ethics. I think if it had been the first round, I would’ve voted for someone else and maybe wouldn’t have even ranked Mamdani and would’ve had other people who were more centrist, liberal types. I’ve loved getting to know you all through classes, group chats, and Zoom calls, and so I’d love to represent you all as your first year Class President.
- CMC is a place where all of us should feel fully, genuinely and authentically at home.
- If working and middle class voters cannot afford groceries, they certainly cannot afford to be single issue voters for social justice.
- “Teaching a data science course like Econ 160 involves a lot more in-class lab work, where professors present a lecture and students operate software in class,” said Batta in response to the differences between teaching a traditional accounting course and Accounting Data Analytics.
- On campus, I am involved with the Black Women’s Collective, Scholar Community, and recently started the Claremont Cybersecurity Club.
Introducing the 2025-26 RAs!
I am from Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, studying Environmental Analysis on the Science track with a sequence in Asian American Studies. Data Science is my major, but I really love cybersecurity. One of my favorite things about CMC is the tight-knit, vibrant community, and as an RA, I’m excited to help keep that spirit of support and fun alive! I love volleyball (intramural team?), K-Pop (any Carats?), Greco-Roman mythology, books, blind boxes, and creative mediums like crochet, stamp carving, and painting! Fostering community motivates me as a Romero Success Coach, CPB’s Vice-President of Creative Programming, and as Club Soda’s Co-President! For fun, I love trying new crafting skills — sewing and crocheting are my current favorites.

On campus, I am part of the Claremont Consulting Group and Claremont Accounting Association. When my peers struggle to acknowledge women and people of color who prioritized a different issue in this election, they dismiss the concerns of millions of minority voters. If working and middle class voters cannot afford groceries, they certainly cannot afford to be single issue voters for social justice. Though the person later sincerely apologized, this episode reflects a broader problem with political discourse in the CMC community. “Perhaps racism and sexism played a role for some voters,” our professor responded. In my public policy class’s election debrief that evening, our professor asked why we thought Trump won. In fact, the post was meant to do the opposite, reminding us to love our neighbors, even when we disagree with them.

I’m always up for a hoops conversation, so feel free to come talk to me anytime! In my free time, I like dancing and scrapbooking, and my favorite place to study on campus is Heggblade (shoutout amazing DOS staff!). I was a FYG my sophomore year, which encouraged me to apply to be an RA, so I could continue building community and being a mentor on campus. I am dual majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a Data Science sequence and am also involved with Graphite Group and the Claremont Accounting Association.
Henry Long 2025 Class-Elected Commencement Speech
We will continue to have more class zooms within CMC but also as a 5C community. Whether it is virtual events (synchronous and asynchronous) or hopefully physical in the spring, as your president I will make sure that this class stays as strong and tight-knit as possible. We as a class have already had engaging and reflective conversations, and I want to not only continue having those discussions within our class, but to promote those open and productive conversations to members of the student body and faculty. My goal as your president is to make sure we continue to promote that welcoming environment amongst everyone in the student body. I’m Lexi Punishill and I’m hoping to get your vote for first year class president.
- More accessible virtual events to accommodate people from all over the world.
- My name is Prateek and I am so excited to be one of your Crown Hall RAs!

- Having graduated high school in China, I’m acutely aware of the importance of bridging cultural and social gaps, and existing alongside each other as full humans.
Discussing global migration and other issues, Professor Jean-Pierre Murray, who focuses on global governance and international law, warned of a decline in multilateralism and the “liberal international world order” as a result of Trump’s rise. As students at an institution whose mission is to prepare us for thoughtful and productive lives, we have an obligation to be better than the hateful and divisive rhetoric consuming our civic discourse. After class, I asked those same classmates to talk. They seemed to think that whoever was daring enough to challenge their opinions only disagreed because they were racist and misogynistic, too.
If you’re having issues handling hardships this pandemic brings and being a full-time student, I’ll be there to help you gain access to whatever support you need. The main reason I think I’m the best candidate is that I’ll be a representative of the class just as much as I’ll be a president of the class. I’m from Syosset, New York, I love animal crackers and cake, I have a dog named Shadow, and I work at Starbucks. My initiatives are meant to build and advocate for a more environmentally and socially sustainable campus community as well as to be the person you can rely on to act as your voice.
In terms of the differences between the data science major and sequence, Uvin believes that “the major is heavy on math, statistics, and probability. Due to increasing student demand and the use of data analysis in different fields, CMC plans to implement a new data science major by the fall of 2020 or 2021. If you have any questions about my platform or just want to talk, feel free to reach out to me at or through my Instagram (@michael.gadinis)! We have to innovate, improvise, and improve upon the structures and systems already in place to create a CMC community that thrives digitally and feels like home to students from all walks of life. It’s impressive when first-year students step out of their comfort zones, especially by doing things such as running for class president! I’m an economics-accounting major, but in my free time, I love spending time outdoors, reading books, and playing or watching various sports.
Kristol, the son of famed conservative intellectual Irving Kristol, was born and raised in New York City. In an interview with The Forum on October 9th, Bill Kristol told Dhriti Jagadish and Shiv Parihar that he would vote for Zohran Mamdani if he were a resident of New York City. Even though we’re only one month into our virtual first semester, this class already means a lot to me. If there’s a class-wide event you want to see happen, I’ll make sure it happens. Outside of these random facts, why should you vote for me to be your first-year Class President? I haven’t declared a major yet but I am thinking of PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics), PPA (Philosophy and Public Affairs), International Relations or some combination of those subjects.
I want to be the mouthpiece for our class’ issues and wishes, so I plan on taking the initiative to talk with every single first-year. In high school, I worked for the community engagement program at a local museum and successfully led clubs like Speech and Debate, Model UN, and Mock Trial. I’m Liann Bielicki, and I’m running to be your class president. Feel free to email me at or dm me at @theosiasat on Instagram. I will advocate for all underserved and disadvantaged students. And now, I’m running to be your first-year class president.
In my free time, I love listening to music, watching slime videos on Instagram, or taking ill-timed 0.5x photos of my best buds. I love hosting and meeting new people so feel free to stop by! I am so excited to meet so many new people during my time as an RA, and hopefully make some really fun Appleby traditions! I am an international student from England so community is really important to me! ” was a common sentiment from students, many of whom are planning to work in government agencies, the foreign service, or IR-related fields, and were disheartened by what Trump’s win means for U.S. foreign policy. Indeed, in answering student questions, many of the professors noted that several of Trump’s policies will be influenced by the people he surrounds himself with in his cabinet and executive agencies.
